Charities and Non-Profits We Support
Local
[Added November 30, 2009] This is not necessarily a local organization, but it is a great way for gardeners with a bountiful harvest to find a way
to donate their produce to a local food bank or pantry. I found two within a 15-mile radius of our zip code.
[Added January 5, 2010] We took a tour there in 2008 and were really impressed with all their advanced composting techniques, and
their desire to educate others, especially youth in Milwaukee and Chicago.
Our family spent a night in December serving food there and saw first-hand how important it is
to give to this charity.
We support Channel 10/36 as there are often informative programs for adults
and entertaining shows for the kids on Milwaukee's local PBS stations.
We enjoy the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee and we are regulars at their monthly
vegetarian potluck.
Our local NPR station is hosted by the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. They have a lot of
great programming, especially for music. We've been listening to The Deuce,
their new high-definition radio station. Their playlists are all over the place with some
really good adult-alternative music, check them out!
The ONE campaign is the campaign to make poverty history.
ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans – ONE by ONE –
to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. The cause is heavily supported
by Hollywood celebrities as well as some of our
favorite rock stars.
